Editorial Standards
These standards govern everything Asia Economic Review publishes. They are public because our readers’ trust depends on them, and because our contributors and partners should know exactly what is expected.
Independence & ownership
Asia Economic Review is owned by Asia Press Centre Group (APCG), a Singapore-headquartered media network. We disclose that ownership here and wherever it is relevant to a piece. Ownership does not direct our analysis, and neither do commercial partners. Commercial relationships (partner content, events, licensing) are handled by a separate commercial team. No partner sees editorial content before publication, chooses what we analyse, or removes what we have published. Where we analyse APCG, its titles or its commercial partners, we say so in the piece.
Argument & evidence
Every essay states its argument in the standfirst, so readers know what the piece claims before they give it their time. Claims are supported by evidence the reader can check: official statistics, filings, market data, published research and on-the-record interviews, cited in the piece. We present the strongest version of the opposing case before we answer it. Forecasts state their conditions. When the evidence changes, we say so in print. Being corrected by reality is part of publishing analysis, and pretending otherwise is not.
What we analyse, and what we don’t
The Review analyses economies, industries, markets and companies. We do not publish political commentary: no coverage of elections or domestic politics, no territorial or security questions, no assessment of political systems or leaders, in any country and in any format. Where public policy affects business (tariffs, subsidies, monetary policy, regulation), we analyse the measurable consequences for costs, investment and markets. We do not speculate about political motive and we do not assign blame between countries. If a subject cannot be treated through evidence and economics, it does not belong in the Review.
Not investment advice
We analyse economies and markets; we do not advise on them. Nothing in the Review is a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any security, currency or other asset, and no piece accounts for any reader’s circumstances. Contributors disclose relevant holdings to their editor, and we disclose them to readers where material.
Accuracy & corrections
Every figure is checked against a primary source before publication. Material errors are corrected in the piece itself, with a note stating what changed and when; we do not quietly delete mistakes. If you believe we have published an error, write to editorial@asiaeconomicreview.com with a link to the piece. Corrections are read before all other correspondence.
Commercial content: one label, strict limits
The Review carries one form of commercial content. Partner Content is analysis commissioned by a partner, produced or edited by our team to the Review’s standards, and labelled on the page and everywhere it is promoted. It is limited to two pieces per month, and we decline briefs that do not meet the standard, whatever the budget. The Review does not publish press releases, on any terms; announcements belong with our sister title Asianomist’s Press Room. Inclusion in editorial analysis is never for sale: no payment, at any price, buys an essay, a briefing, an interview or a place in the Annual.
Use of AI
We use AI tools to assist research, data assembly and drafting, as we use databases and statistical software. What we do not do is publish automatically. Every piece in the Review is reviewed, verified and approved by a named editor before publication, and the argument in every essay is a person’s argument, owned by the byline that signs it. We do not present AI-generated images as photographs.
